About the Artist
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I am primarily a self-taught visual artist with experience going back to my early childhood that continues through this present day. Trying all different type of styles and techniques, with my strongest ability being able to draw with cont-graphite, which I have learned to master on canvas. As I continue on my path of creating, it took me to Mexico learning different creative techniques from Master Artists, of all different types of media and along the way understanding why art is a major part of my heritage and culture. Today, I've learn to incorporate natural products into my creations from what I was taught abroad to appreciate and share with people here at home.
Artist Statement
I create a specific world that is complete in its multi-layering of dimensional textures. The work is in the rhythm created through my cultural feeling and experiences within the Mayan world, timed with the past and the present. One aspect of my textured work explores the aesthetic of visual abstraction. Up close each painting is created with cont-graphite, oil, eco-friendly latex paint and mud on canvas which presents real nature and true potential, allowing it to crack and flow. There is a clear connection between my paintings and the concepts of shape, color and balance. Yet, I feel that the most important connection is with the dimension of time. I hope that time "the past and the present" is experienced within the mind and body of the viewer.
